BUIGENDE TONEN

Twee soorten tonen zijn er:
'Basis-toon' en 'Veranderlijke'.
De eerste blijft op één hoogte,
de tweede doet dat niet.

Dat 'buigen' lijkt op 'glijden',
zoals een sirene ook wel doet.
De toon buigt ook naar omlaag.
Viool, fluit, en stem kunnen het.

BENDING MY TONE

There are two kinds of tones:
'Basic tone' and 'changing tone'.
The first one stays on one level.
The second one will not do this.

'Bending' sounds like 'gliding',
just like the way a siren does.
It also can bend downwards.
Violin, flute and voice can do it.

-----------------------------------

I use these changing tones
to create sweet micro tones.
The fun is that they bend,
they are not fixed, they move.

Sometimes it has the flavour
of a slow playing blues guitarist.
A 'moving' tone is mysterious.
They have a kind of freedom.

There are also bending tones
which go from the microtone
towards the basic tone.
It is the other way around.

Some bending tones surprise.
They go from the basic tone
up-down-up, or down-up.
There are lots of variations.

When someone speaks
there is so much bending.
Tough words are more basic.
Sweet words bend very much.

To imitate a computer voice
we only use the basic tones.
Bending downwards is crying,
going upwards is being happy.

The fact that a piano has only
basic tones does not mean
that we do not need bending.
Modern synthesizers can do it.
